Part of wanting the prosecutor of Marion Co in your pocket, compared with the other 91 offices, is that being the county where the state capitol sits, jurisdiction to criminally prosecute crimes such as official misconduct and other offenses directly connected to work as a state official will often be in Marion County.

The Marion County Prosecutor is considered to be one of the most powerful offices in the state (some say it ranks #3) because this officeholder has jurisdiction over the prosecution of corruption in state government.
If any office needs to be accountable to the electorate, it is the Marion County Prosecutor.

Better idea - the lieutenant governor should be elected by the people and not the party!

The prosecutor is appointed by the people. As it should be.

A lot of people think that Lieutenant Governor should be an appointed position. The current governor included!

The Indiana Constitution says they can't do that.

That should remain an independent office, not loyal to anyone or anything but the pursuit of justice based on the law.

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works
the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel
opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own
address as its source and its own type. #}
