The basement had a door which led directly outside. Lord sometimes spent time in the detached garage and worked on mopeds. On August 17, 2023, police conducted surveillance of the house. At 11:14 a.m., officers observed the garage door open and Lord smoke a cigarette. At 12:28 p.m., Mark Smith and Andrew Winkler arrived in an SUV, exited their vehicle, and entered the garage.
