Moore believed a woman he knew, Steffanie Deboer, was in the apartment. When Moore arrived, he and Deboer began arguing. Moore told Deboer “that she needed to come with him because [she] was his property.” (App. Vol. II at 49.) Elliott, who was asleep in another room of the apartment heard Moore and Deboer arguing.
