On the morning of October 19, 2023, Lawrence borrowed a car from a friend
who was staying at the Quality Inn in South Bend. In the early afternoon,
Lawrence returned to the hotel, parked the borrowed car in the side parking lot,
and waited for his friend to exit the hotel to drive Lawrence home.
