In July 2025, Indiana State Police Trooper Jeremy Hall issued Daniel J.
Sallmen a traffic citation for driving eighty miles per hour under Indiana Code
section 9-21-5-2(a)(4), which prohibits driving a vehicle weighing over 26,000
pounds on Interstate-70 in excess of sixty-five miles per hour. At a bench trial in
September 2025, Trooper Hall testified that he used a handheld lidar device to
take two readings which both measured the speed of the vehicle driven by
Sallmen at eighty miles per hour.
