Brunette stabbed Conley numerous times before cutting Conley’s throat. Johnnie Davidson and Kelly Wagner witnessed Brunette attacking Conley and called 9-1-1. After officers arrived on the scene and detained Brunette, Brunette told Davidson, “[Conley’s] dead. I killed him.” Tr. Vol. 3, p. 46. The State charged Brunette with Conley’s murder.
