On February 12, 2023, when Bedgood returned home from work, he noticed that Kirincich was intoxicated. The couple argued because Kirincich wanted to go to the liquor store and Bedgood refused to take her. During the argument, Kirincich struck Bedgood in the face with a beer bottle. Bedgood called 9-1-1 and reported the battery to the police.
