Less than two minutes later, Officer Kinnett was on the scene and observed two males, one lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso and another, Lloyd, standing near him. Lloyd admitted to Officer Kinnett that he had just shot the other man, Shonta Phillips. Officer Kinnett arrested Lloyd and paramedics rushed Phillips to a nearby hospital.
