They learned that Davis was staying in Room 240 at a local Motel 6, and they knocked on the door. Davis answered the door, but he gave his name as “J[ay] Adams.” Tr. pp. 66, 136. Davis then closed and locked the door. While the door was open, the officers smelled the odor of raw marijuana. The officers requested additional officers for their safety.
