In June 2018, V.M. was ninety-one years old. In the early morning hours of June 27, Patterson broke into V.M.’s living area. He demanded money from V.M. and then pulled her out of her bed, placed a pillowcase over her head, and “proceeded to vaginally and anally penetrate her with his penis multiple times.” Tr. Vol. 3, p. 58. Patterson then fled the scene, and V.M. contacted emergency personnel. Emergency personnel, in turn, contacted 9-1-1. V.M.
