Commissioners 5-19-26 [35:50-40:58]

Rodney's made most of the walling on circles. We haven't said a whole lot. I'm making for your opinion of the conversation. I'm sure you have it. I do. Like I spoke earlier, I'm hesitant to enter into a contract that we don't know how to be fined. I'm assuming that this contract has a provision that we can get out of it because necessary. I don't know. I'll have to read that contract. You know, because this step we haven't really had to. Had some of this, but just a short while, we haven't had time to look at it. The only thing I could say to that is that every cross here has this burden and every county's got to face this burden. The counties that might not be near as expensive would be kind of like orange or like marble that have much smaller population, much smaller general budget. But I mean, when we get down to it, I don't want to come across as a jerk. I've got to run my office and it's specifically said, you say this is what you need to run your office. I'm a person. I'm going to be saying that and I'm going to fight for it. And you are willing to pay a portion of it out of this. Yes. If not all of it. I mean, we might get to a point where we get all of it, but I don't want to run a check. Let's agree with Rodney and let him do the contract. And then he's hopefully can come up with the funding to pay for it out of his current report. He can get the council to allocate the remaining funds to make it go. And if we do get future overlords, that's something we can consider. But today, it's not really a question. Correct. It's not a recurring thing. It's just a dump of a certain dollar amount and then it's gone. It's gone. And I don't understand this next distribution if it comes through. Is the last one. Is that what you understand, Rodney? No, I do not. Mr. Smith. There will be staggered incremental payments based upon the party settling their opioid claim. Figure companies will have a staggered payout over a period of years. No two payout periods fall on the same date. And no two periods run the same length of time. The bigger providers will provide their payout over a longer period. The smaller providers over a shorter period. The principal amounts have been distributed. There will be other supplemental incremental payments. But there's no unified schedule for me to check. And that also assumes that the companies that are participated in the opioid settlement through the multi-district litigation that's taken place. I think it's in Ohio, maybe I'm not sure where it is. In any event that those companies remain solvent enough after having made these initial payments that they'll even still be in business to make those future payments. Assuming that they don't refile under a different chapter of the bankruptcy code to just wipe out the debt in order of business. Those are all contingencies that no one can control. And to be clear on that, that was that no time had I considered when making this thing. Oh my God, open it. It would be just a little bit extra icing on the cupcake if you guys do have something you can throw it over there. Well, I take a little bit of heat off me on the counselor side. It's always appreciated. All right, let's see. Well, Rodney's got emotion on the floor. I'm willing to go along with that. If you want to make a seconder, you want me to make a seconder. I'll seconder. We have a motion. Home favors say aye. Aye. That's right. For the 10-year thing. Yeah. Emotions can be said. Thank you. And Mr. Watson, about a year ago, caught me into the hot wants challenge where I had to go up there and eat all kinds of really spicy food. There's nobody else in any of the Department of Government's want to do that. You guys ought to look into that. It was a good time. I did look into it. And decided not to do it. I probably will see the Navy machine there. Yeah. Thank you, gentlemen. All right. Next is Nathan Watson for one. BRI. BRI, I guess, actually today. Yeah, today I'm with BRI. I will say I can every time I'm up here, someone brings up the hot wings thing. Anyway, so I'm here to request use of the courthouse grounds for our limestone heritage festival.

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
