2025.12.01 Commissioners [5:06-10:13]

we should be ready for any income so that's all I have back and brought good morning I just wanted to take this time it's beginning of the holiday season here and do some safety reminders Christmas tree safety on how to take care of your live Christmas trees and such they're always such a fire hazard if you don't take care of them properly and you can go to the National Fire Protection Agency NFPA.org and they'll give you lots of tips on how to make sure to keep it watered on lights and everything and your various plugins and such and then as we get getting into the the weather I want to remind everybody to download if possible the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department app you will get the weather information on there before it ever is issued they get it because it comes over their network before it's ever on TV about from the National Weather Service directly on the app so it's free it doesn't cost anything and it is the most up to date and most accurate weather that we get and it comes directly from the National Weather Service so that's why I don't look at the notification programs and stuff because it everything comes right across that app for free and then also driving on bad weather or winter roads and stuff National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and that's W W W in H T S A dot gov and they have a lot of good winter weather driving tips you know some people have new teenagers that are just driving and might need to and then some people just need to be refreshed a lot I mean we had a 50 car pile up on I 70 at Tera Hode on Saturday in a 35 car pile up on I 69 North of Indy over this weekend you know so some people just may need a refresher on how to drive so but those are some and I've got those Martha if you need them and I'm got him over here with gonna give me Terry Joe and she'll be glad to share them so but that's all I had this morning there's always questions about whether or not we put a a travel advisory we can take that very seriously because it affects people we try not to close down the roads or close down travel unless it's absolutely necessary so if you get an advice from Elvis please be aware we've taken a lot of time and consider whether or not we issue those advice so please everybody be aware I know some counties the EMA can can do the yellow which is just the roads aren't normal and that's just use caution and that's basically all that one is yellow is or orange excuse me is just be out if you absolutely have to and then red is no travel except for certain you well after COVID what we found out when we did red once before and that was at the request of the highway and the sheriff's department and such because of the roads were so bad there was a hard call for the decision commissioners to make but what we found out it really didn't do us that much good in the long run because a lot of businesses said they were they were necessary and stuff and they have a different view of what's necessary than then make public safety does and so that's why you know sometimes we can issue those but the people are going to get out or still going to get out so that's why it's such a hard decision for the commissioners to make because of all of the various factors so I want to give you guys a break there because people have no idea the phone calls that you get for and against travel advisories and then when you issue them what the results are so we've always stated that it's everyone's individual responsibility that's right yeah yeah yeah that's all I had

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
