Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Oversight of Temporary ICE Holding Cells Act''. SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON EXTENDED DETENTION IN HOLDING ROOMS. (a) In General.--The Secretary of Homeland Security may not detain an individual in a holding room for more than 12 hours. (b) Holding Room Defined.--In this Act, the term ``holding room'' means a secure area used for temporary confinement of any detained individual before intake processing, institutional appointments (including court and medical appointments), release, transfer to another facility, or removal-related transportation. <all>
