When the police arrived, they saw a black Chevrolet facing east in the north side of the road. The passenger, who Medina has referred to in court filings as her boyfriend, was pronounced dead at the scene. Medina, who was only seventeen years old at the time, admitted to the officers that she had been driving the vehicle. The police transported Medina to a nearby hospital, where a sample of her blood was taken for analysis.
