Poilievre's campaign against Alberta separation | The Big Story [25:19-28:11]

And I think one of the interesting possibilities here is what if we do, what if Carney actually succeeds in getting some kind of agreement with Trump to get him to back off the tariffs and are, you know, that would have a, you know, profound immediate effect, I think, on the stock market. Certainly, then probably in the longer term on our economy whole, does that actually help or hurt Paulie? Yeah. I'm not sure yet. And I don't have a good sense of how that would play. You know, it's like, it's like, was in Churchill was the wartime prime minister that Britain needed. But when the war was over, he was like, well, we don't need you. Any more. Goodbye. And I think it could be something, there could be a scenario like that. So in a strange way, I think if Carney was actually able to get a deal with, with, with Trump on trade that he might actually politically be more vulnerable. The other thing that's really, I, I think needs to be noted is Paulie have doesn't have any challenges right now. There was no one within his own caucus who was standing up to say, hey, I want to be the guy. And then, and then, you know, the issue of floor crossing seems to have kind of calmed down. Right. I guess, right? Does that change over the summer? Do MPs when they leave Ottawa, they're on their own. They're more, you know, less supported by their caucus colleagues. Maybe they're more vulnerable to being lured over. We'll see. I mean, the current government doesn't really need them right now because they got their number, right? Pending these violations that will have to happen at some point in the next six months or so. But I don't think there was immediate pressure on Paulie have. And I think he's like stylistically, he's kind of dug into the, to the old, there was a period not that long ago when he traveled to Europe and he traveled to the United States and gave these more Captain Canada-type speeches. We saw a very different tone, but he's kind of dropped that now. Like, I've covered Paulie have since 2004, because I used to work for the Ottawa City business in the newspaper here, and he was local in peace. So I'd go to events and cover him and talk to him all the time and he was so very personable. But he was developing that kind of rat pack attack dog gun a guy back then. And he hasn't really moved beyond it. Maybe he doesn't need to. Maybe this is the, you know, people like this, people in the Conservative Party like this peer, Paulie have. They don't want to see him take any off of the sharp edges off. We'll see who comes back after Labor Day. All right. One, thank you for your insights. I appreciate all this. Thanks, Maria. Good talk to you. And that was the big story.
