FORT WAYNE, (WPTA) - Trump-backed state Senator Liz Brown (R-Fort Wayne) is claiming victory on Wednesday over challenger Darren Vogt in the Indiana Senate District 15 GOP race.
Unofficial final election results have incumbent Brown with 50.07% of the vote, at 5,241 to 5,226 votes.
She was running against
Darren Vogt
, a Northwest Allen County Schools Board member and staffer for Republican U.S. Senator Jim Banks. Vogt was endorsed by both Attorney General Todd Rokita and Banks.
21Alive News has reached out to both candidates’ campaigns to inquire if they are requesting a recount in the race.
Vogt’s campaign responded, saying the race is “effectively tied”.
“After a 9 month campaign and 2 days of counting votes, the unofficial count is effectively tied. Out of respect for the voters and the process, we are exploring all of our options to ensure every legal vote is counted and every voice is heard,” Vogt said in a release.
Brown’s campaign has yet to respond.

Her presumptive win makes her the
sixth Trump-endorsed candidate to rise to victory

In December, Brown was
ousted as the chair of the Indiana Senate’s Judiciary Committee

Brown also authored an immigration enforcement bill that

in February, which aims to strengthen state law enforcement’s cooperation with federal authorities.

unofficial results
also show Julie McGill has beaten out Chloe Andis.
