Cowboys LINKED To Nick Chubb Signing By ESPN | Dallas Cowboys Rumors [0:00-5:00]

Welcome in to the Cowboys Report presented today by PricePix. On today's show, we're breaking down the ESPN article that linked Nick Shubb to the Dallas Cowboys part of their best team-fifth, top free agents left, and we'll discuss if that is actually a good idea for both parties. Before we dive into that, help us out by sharing today's video on social media, whether it's Twitter, Facebook, whatever it is, actually does help us continue to grow here on the Cowboys Report. So please, and thank you, share today's show. So the new article from ESPN was the top team-fifths for the best NFL free agents left. ESPN's Matt Bowen is the article he does this pretty much each. He actually does a couple of times throughout the year, which I think is fun. He picked the Cowboys for Nick Shubb as the top option for the former Browns and now former Texans running back as well. Here's what Matt wrote. A veteran grinder at this point of his career, Shubb could provide value as the Cowboys number two or number three option behind Starter Javante Williams. Shubb can still secure catches on swings and check downs in the passing game, but he should be viewed as an early down option who can use his power and vision in short yardage situations. He rushed for 520 yards in Houston last season. So I want to break down all the claims made there of who Nick Shubb is now. Is he still good in short yardage? Can he be a number two or a number three? And I think that part in particular does matter a lot for the Dallas Cowboys. Shubb was certainly better, more efficient than he was in a limited 2024 campaign. He's also not the guy he was at his prime. The 2022 Nick Shubb was perhaps the best back at all of the NFL. He was so good as a runner. We haven't really seen that guy for three years now and it's been about 25, originally, 25 games. The injuries have, I think, begun to pile up a little bit there, but I also think if you were ranking the top just runners in the NFL, I think you'd have a tough time coming up with 90 names before you get to Nick Shubb. As we'll discuss, it's not always how NFL teams do it though. So a question for you guys here. Would you sign Nick Shubb? Why for yes and for no? Let me know in the comments section of today's Shubb. So the first claim I want to discuss, like would Nick Shubb be the running back to for the Dallas Cowboys? My answer was, maybe, I'm not actually convinced that's the case right now. The reason why I can't say definitively is it's a pretty small sample size for Malik Davis. But he was more efficient on almost the third of the carries, not quite a third, but we're in the ballpark. It's close enough there. He averaged more yards to carry, had more long runs at the one 43 yard and Nick Shubb didn't really have a bunch of explosive runs as we'll get into. The touchdowns were pretty close for Malik Davis. And either guy was particularly impactful as a receiver, it was two catches from Malik Davis. Can we really judge much of anything in that area? But remember, if you're doing the number two back thing, you would like to have some third down value in the end. If you value pass blocking in that area, again, the minute sample size from Malik Davis did great out a bit higher than Nick Shubb. But I do think because Javante is a good pass protector, you'd probably lean toward him being the number, like the third down back. I think if you're going to bring in Nick Shubb, you'd want him to surpass Malik Davis. Otherwise, you know, what's the point? You have options on your roster, Lipki can do third down stuff for you, Javante is going to be on the team. Malik Davis brings you to your team's value, which again, we'll come back to you here in a little bit. And you have some intriguing young guys, Jaden Blue, Phil Maffa, probably not Israel of Anaconda, but I guess I can leave open that pipe during if we so choose. So by take is he might be RB2, but as we'll get into here in a little bit, the advanced numbers that I think can often indicate like, hey, this is what to expect this upcoming season, they're a little bit iffy for Nick Shubb, which, which concerns me when you are on the wrong side of 30, coming off a bunch of injuries over your career as freak of an affiness he has proven to been in his time in the NFL.
