With the state earning the term U.S. Lighting Capital, it’s fitting Oklahoma ALSO had the county with the top lightning flash density in 2025. Kay County along the Oklahoma/Kansas border had a whopping 123.4 lightning flashes per square mile! With 121.9 flashes per square mile, Hendry County, Florida—situated just east of Fort Myers—came in 2nd for lightning flash density. Personally, as someone who lives in a county that only had around 30 flashes per square mile, I’m definitely a bit jealous.
