2 bill co-authored by Zionsville State Rep. Hunter Smith signed into law
Two pieces of legislation that were co-authored by District 24 State Rep. Hunter Smith (R-Zionsville) are now law.
Senate Enrolled Act 204 allows people who have a teaching license for charter schools to obtain an initial practitioner professional educator license. The law also “streamlines
education-related reporting requirements” and allows vaccine exemptions for health education students on grounds of religious freedom, according to a news release.
“This new law opens the door for more Hoosiers to enter the teaching profession while cutting down on unnecessary paperwork,” Smith stated. “By expanding pathways into the classroom, we’re making it easier to recruit strong educators and focus more on student success.”
Smith is a member of the House Education Committee.
House Enrolled Act 1004 was a House Republican priority bill building on previous legislation by cutting and reducing education regulations, meant to give schools more control over local decisions, a new release stated.
“By reducing burdensome regulations, we’re giving teachers more time to focus on instruction and empowering communities to make decisions that better reflect their unique needs,” Smith stated. “This legislation puts more trust in our local schools and the educators who know their students best.”
