D3football.com Podcast 407 Extra: David Blake, Bethany (W.Va.) [35:11-40:15]

the OVAC. He was also OVAC offensive coordinator of the year. And it helps too that he's also been the OVAC see all star OC for the West Virginia team several times. Okay. And so that part of blanking it there and plus he's a local. He grew up in willing West Virginia, played at Lindsay, played at West Liberty, a couple of years younger than me. And then that part about to talk about going to get guys that know what successful football looks like. So, I'm the West Repensive Any Guy, James Coleman, our own line coach, West Repensive Any Guy, Josh Perry, our DC, he's from a meet Louisiana, played at Memphis, grad transfer to Southern Miss. And he came from UT Martin. So he's tuned in all over Tennessee, Louisiana. And so if you look at our recruiting class, I don't want to talk numbers on it because everyone said much about anybody. The three states right there, you know, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, you know, hit it hard. Then the DMV, that's like our, you know, the next next in line. And then, you know, we got the Georgia kids. We got Florida, both Carolina's, pulled some kids out of New England states. Shortavia Scots are a defensive line coach, he's coming to us, he grew up in Mississippi but he lives in Arizona, joined us from Arizona and so, you know, it's bringing a different dynamic. So we've got kids from, you know, the West Coast, the South, to the New England states that are right here in our home area. And it's, you know, it's quite the melting pot, you know, and it's been really cool to see come together this quickly. I only have left to make just a huge tonal shift as we start to wrap up this conversation and get to the, the kind of local scoop on Bethany West Virginia from the person in the D3 universe who knows it best, probably, Carla Guadadino of Dingo Talk and he asked me to ask you what your go to order is at Chambers General Store and I had to look up of course what Chambers General Store was. Chambers is a, you know, it should be on the national register of historic landmarks. It is, you know, it's an incredible, you know, hometown classic general store right there in Bethany, you know, old school style wood floors and, you know, so you walk back in there, Harry's back in there, Harry Chambers is the one that owns it, you know, you walk back in there and tell Harry your order and, you know, I get the same thing every morning pretty much and that's him, egg and cheese with, and that cheese is pepper jack on white toast toasted and then I get a coffee, you know, every morning in there and out the door that's 350. No kidding. Yeah, a couple of coffee there's 50 cents man and I don't think I can barely make you else coffee. I can barely make all that for myself at home for three, right, right and so other days, you know, I'll get the biscuits engravy, but Chambers his mom, you know, she's, she's got to be, you know, somewhere in her mid to late 80s, I would say, and she makes some of the best, you know, sticky buns, you know, I've ever had. So when those are on the counter, that's a must buy by those for the staff when, you know, the sticky buns are sitting out on the counter. So it's, I mean, it looks like you step it up. What's that? It's that you can do that when you're running a program where you're making sure those guys burn all those calories too, right? Yeah. Yeah. Um, I didn't hear the Coleman's fish sandwich in there. That's the only other thing. You know, during Lent, you know, like a good Catholic, you know, I got to get my Friday fish sandwich. So yes, during Lent, I was, you know, partaking in the Coleman's fish sandwich there as well. But I, I see like if you go to their Facebook page and these are the two things that I did to, you know, to prep for this part of the conversation, like the only thing on that Facebook page is like those seven Fridays in a row where they talked about the sandwich. And of course, they don't describe what's in, what's on the sandwich, what makes it greater, anything like that because I'm sure everybody in their audience already knows what I want to know. Tell me. So it's, it's a fried sandwich on white bread. All right. So like you can get, you know, I get, I get cheese added to it, you know, you get cheese lettuce tomato added to it, a little bit of mayo, depending on what you want. Yeah, it, it comes stock white bread and, and a, and a piece of fish. All right. And what does that cost me going out the door? I think it might be three bucks, yeah, four bucks at best. That is crazy. Last question, I'll let you go. When you guys line up against Soani in, in week one, obviously, you're, you're going to be presenting something. I assume that it's not going to be something they're going to have found on tape, right? And without giving too much away, what is the, what are the sort of things that you guys are going to be doing schematically or tempo wise or anything like that? What is the, the, the, the character of the Bethany football program on the field coming up in 2026? The, the character of our team, um, you, I'll put it like this.
