Parke County Indiana on Instagram: "Did you know that #ParkeCounty is the Covered Bridge Capital of the World?! We are home to 31 Covered Bridges and at one time had as many as 53 covered bridges! ❤️ The purpose for covering a bridge is to shield the wood from the elements, extending their lifespan. It is estimated that uncovered wooden bridges have a 20-year lifespan, whereas covered can have an upwards of 100 years! ✨"
