Deputy recognized for ‘life-saving actions’

Local News X MADISON COUNTY — Madison County Law Enforcement Foundation (MCLEF) awarded its March 2026 Community Hero Award to Madison County Sheriff Deputy Grant Stephens for quick response and competency in CPR. The foundation established the monthly award to recognize a law enforcement professional who went above and beyond the call of duty. Officers/deputies are nominated by their chief or sheriff, and a winner is chosen by a civilian committee. Madison County Sheriff John Beeman nominated Stephens. “Deputy Stephens responded to a possible cardiac arrest where the caller believed the victim may already be deceased,” an MCLEF press release states. “Deputy Stephens began CPR and continued until EMS personnel arrived and they began to administer medical assistance in an attempt to revive the victim. After multiple attempts, the victim registered a pulse and was transported to Community Hospital for further treatment. Deputy Stephens’ efforts were critical in the minutes it took EMS to respond. The victim would not have survived without Deputy Stephens heroics and life-saving actions.” Stephens will receive a commemorative plaque and two $50 gift cards to area restaurants. He will also be eligible for the Community Hero of the Year Award to be presented at the Policeman’s Ball next year. “This is one of our core programs to recognize and reward our law enforcement officers in Madison County,” said MCLEF Executive Director Kenny Davenport. “We want to make sure they have the support they deserve.” Individuals or organizations who wish to donate to the award program can email [email protected] . Madison County Law Enforcement Foundation is a non-profit based in Anderson. According to its Facebook page, its aim is “To promote local law enforcement by fostering a positive relationship with the citizens of Madison County; to help cops help kids, to support law enforcement in times of need, and to establish programs for the betterment of the law enforcement family.” Featured Local Savings
