Title: Micah Beckwith is a coward | Letters URL Source: https://www.indystar.com/story/opinion/readers/2026/04/29/micah-beckwith-westfield-high-school-band-coward/89835465007/ Published Time: 2026-04-29T09:13:40Z Markdown Content: April 29, 2026, 5:13 a.m. ET Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith went on a social media rampage attacking band students at Westfield High School in what could only seem to be something he believes does not align with his brand of Christianity. Since then, the post disappeared only to reappear with comments disabled. Beckwith is a coward. Plain and simple. Of all the controversies he’s had over the past decade, he can’t even stand by his words. This is at least the third social media post within the last six months that has disappeared. During the 2025 NFL season, Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was in town to call a Colts game when he engaged in an early-morning violent altercation with an elderly delivery driver. Beckwith (along with Gov. Mike Braun) had to make his thoughts clear on social media before having all the facts. It was just rage bait to further push the stereotype that Indy is not safe. Beckwith deleted that post. Sanchez was charged in the attack. Later in December, Beckwith was alongside Braun in pushing for Trump’s early redistricting scheme. He posted to X (and later deleted) an assertion that President Trump made a threat to Indiana lawmakers and that Braun and Beckwith agreed to carry it out. I find it very odd that Beckwith cannot stick to his words. Why bother to post if it’s not just to rile us up? This latest act of cowardice is nothing more than a display of a lack of leadership. This man can’t even keep his own church in order, let alone have any business working for Hoosiers. I should not have to open my web browser to IndyStar and see that our lieutenant governor is taking shots at high school band kids just for an ensemble. Indiana is continuing to have a reputation that we cannot govern seriously. I hope Beckwith has an awakening and will realize that he’s causing more harm than good. I mean, it must happen soon, right? _Tony Laurenzana lives in Indianapolis._

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
