Spartz, Ford to face off for 5th District seat in November

The race for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District is set. Incumbent Republican Victoria Spartz will face Democratic State Sen. J.D. Ford in the Nov. 3 general election. Both candidates won the May 5 primary handily, with Spartz earning more than 60 percent of the vote over Scott King and Ford receiving more than 40 percent of the vote in a seven-way race. In an emailed statement after the primary, Spartz said she is honored that her fellow Republicans placed their trust in her for another term. “As we approach the 250th anniversary of our republic, we are reminded of the courage and sacrifice that secured the ideals of liberty and opportunity that so many Americans fought and died for. We cannot let them down by allowing the radical left to prevail,” she stated. “I look forward to a fall campaign focused on real policies that benefit all Americans — and a clear contrast between my professional and legislative record and that of my opponent.” Supporters cheer for State Sen.
