The May 5 primary election closed with Albright taking about 41 percent of the Republican vote in Hamilton County and 26 percent in Marion County; and Forestal garnering about 32 percent of Democratic votes in Hamilton County and about 49 percent in Marion County.
In an emailed statement, Albright thanked supporters and said she hopes to move forward by bringing people together through common goals and practical solutions.
“Throughout this campaign, I have listened to health care workers, small business owners, parents, students, seniors and families from all walks of life who want the same thing: strong schools, safe communities, affordable health care and responsible leadership,” she stated. “As a health care professional, I have learned that real leadership is about listening and finding solutions that work for people. That is exactly the kind of leadership I will bring to the state senate.”
Forestal provided a statement on May 6. He said he is
honored and grateful that voters placed their trust in him.
“I want to congratulate my opponents on well-run races and thank them for the work they put into this campaign,” he stated. “Now, I am focused on bringing people together so we can win in November and give our entire community the strong, steady leadership everyone deserves … In the State Senate, I will focus on the issues that matter most to families across our district, like safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, lower health care and childcare costs, and real accountability for utility companies that keep raising our rates.”
Earlier in the day, volunteers at various precincts in Fishers reported a slow but steady stream of voters on a rainy election day. Wearing a Chris Evans for Judge T-shirt and carrying a huge umbrella, Laura Gaskill, an attorney with Massillamany Jeter & Carson in Fishers, arrived at the Fishers Municipal Center voting location at 6:45 a.m. and planned to stay until about 5:30 p.m.
“It’s important,” she said. “There’s a whole kind of new era of judges coming in. I think it’s important we get really good people on the bench. So, I’m happy to support Chris Evans and all he’s been doing.”
Evans won his primary for Superior Court 3, taking about 60 percent of the vote.
About a mile away at the Al Huda Mosque precinct, Javed Khan and Shelley Harder stood outside in support of their candidates for Senate District 31. Khan was there for Forestal and Harder supported Albright.
Although they were with opposing parties, the two laughed and joked together as the weather turned from light sprinkles to true rain.
“There’s something wrong with you if you can’t get along with someone who doesn’t think the way you do,” Harder said, with Khan nodding agreement.
Harder noted that voting had been slow since she arrived mid-morning, and she wished that more people would come out to vote in the primaries.
The general election is Nov. 3.
