Two running for Hendricks County Council District 4
Republicans Eric Wathen, the incumbent, and Shawn Vaughn are running the Hendricks County Council District 4 seat.
Wathen answered the following questions from Current. Vaughn did not respond to Current’s requests to answer the questions.
Why are you running for this office?
Wathen
As a lifelong resident of Hendricks County, I want to ensure that the quality of life remains amazing for its residents.
Maintaining the County’s infrastructure and services as economically as possible is one of the best ways to ensure that this continues to happen.
What sets you apart from your opponent?
I have a civil engineering degree from Rose-Hulman. I understand infrastructure from planning all the way through construction. Before I started my own firm, I ran a 150-person engineering firm. This experience, along with an in-depth knowledge of how the County’s finances work, helps me contribute to the Council.
What are your top three campaign issues?
Working with our towns, townships, schools and fire departments to understand the effects and prepare for the implementation of Senate Enrolled Act 1 from 2024; continue to find innovative ways for the County to do more with less; continue to listen to my friends and neighbors for direction on how they want the County to run.
What do you most want voters to know about you?
I have deep roots in the community. Both sets of my grandparents farmed here. I went to Tri-West Schools my entire education, and my wife and I raised four boys into young men here. I would like to continue to help this community succeed.
How will you scrutinize county spending to ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently in our growing communities?
I will continue to work closely with the County Commissioners to ensure that any projects or services that they propose are needed and necessary.
Using my background in civil engineering, I can help with making sure that these things are done in an efficient and effective manner.
