Three running for Hendricks County Council District 3
Incumbent Republican Charles “Chuck” Parsons is running for reelection for the Hendricks County Council District 3 seat. He is being challenged by Jered Petrey and Ed Gaddie.
Petrey answered the following questions from Current. Parsons and Gaddie did not respond to Current’s request to answer the questions.
Why are you running for this office?
Petrey
Petrey:
I watched county council meeting videos because coverage was limited. What I found convinced me to run: rubber stamp votes, budget patches, and rare challenges to what happens. Residents deserve someone asking hard questions on the record. I decided to be that person.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
Petrey:
I bring a COO background to a council that has operated without real scrutiny dominated by one party. I have read the budgets, watched the votes, and done the homework most candidates skip. I am not running against a person. I am running against the lack of accountability.
What are your top three campaign issues?
Petrey:
Financial transparency, responsible growth, and real accountability. Residents deserve plain English explanations of how their tax dollars are spent. New development should pay its own way. And every vote on that council should come with real public discussion, not rubber stamp approvals with no debate. Residents should know the name of their councilman.
What do you want voters to know about you?
Petrey:
I live here with my wife. I am raising my son here. I am not a career politician. I am a neighbor who did the homework, started showing up and watching meetings, and decided that anger was not enough. I want to earn your vote and then earn your trust.
How will you balance the budget amid changing tax laws while investing in public safety and roads?
Petrey:
Indiana’s property tax reforms and Local Income Tax restructuring will directly affect what Hendricks County can spend. Residents deserve a published plan that addresses those changes honestly, not one-time budget patches that hide the problem. I will push for real multiyear planning that protects public safety and roads without surprises.
