On the evening of December 4, a group of persons, including Woodard-Ward, asked Mathis to construct a device for them so that they could smoke marijuana. Mathis said that he could not do so because he no longer possessed the supplies necessary to construct the device. This angered the group, who threatened to “jump” Mathis if he did not construct the requested device. Tr. Vol. III p.
