Forrest Gump (1994) / Glenmorangie Nectar D'or Single Malt Scotch [41:47-46:47]

you get just this bomb of honey. The lemon meringue really sticks around for me. It's a really creamy, whiskey experience. You get a bit of an orange zest that pops at you. And I thought it got almost into the territory of like a maple syrup. The palette is a little bit less impressive than the nose for me, but just barely. I'm gonna give it an eight and a half here. I'm gonna say this in the nicest way I can think to say it, Brad. I feel like we've always plugged the quince of rubin. As you should buy this whiskey if you're starting to get serious about scotch, because it's mind-blowingly good at a really good price. I almost want to transfer that title to this, but it has nothing to do with the price, and it also has nothing to do with the taste. I just think that like, from the moment I sipped it, I could tell this wasn't an incredibly well-made scotch. It's really creamy. There are some almost nutty, and all this wasn't an incredibly well-made scotch. It's really creamy. There are some almost non-descript fruity notes going on here. It has almost an ashy sort of burnt taste at the back, in a good way. Like, you get that on a lot of scotches, even on non-peded scotches. But it's not complex. You know what I mean? I'm not gonna sit here and pull notes out of this for the next 10 minutes. Like, it just tastes like a really creamy, really good wine-cask finished scotch. And I think that I would almost want to offer this to a person who has only ever had J&B, or, you know what I mean? Or, like, Cuddy Sark. And be like, this is what a $90 bottle of scotch tastes like. Because if I'm telling someone, oh yeah, like, do you taste the figgy pudding in this? And they're gonna be like, no, I don't know what that, I don't know how to look for figgy pudding. I don't think you can really look for anything in this. It's just a very generically good scotch. And I like it because of that. And I sound like I'm insulting it. But you certainly do. I'm gonna give it an 8 on the taste. It's just like, I don't have any notes to give on it, other than that. Wearing out on the finish. I'll give it a 7 and a half on the finish. I think that it has a really nice kind of fade out on the finish. It doesn't drop off a cliff, but it also, I haven't been thinking about the finish at all. You know what I mean? Like, it's just a really good, barley, heavy, creamy scotch finish. And I sound like a broken record. Yeah, I am getting a lot more here than you are, Bob. Like, I think that the finish is incredible. I think it's the best part of this experience. For me, the flavors sat on my palate for a long time after I was done. And it's this fresh lemon zest. It gets into those kind of, almost like a cream of wheat, sourdough bread kind of territory. And the honey sticks around for the long run. I think it's a 9 and a half on the finish. And I think for me, I'm gonna give it a 9 and a half on balance as well. Like, I would agree with you that this is not the most complex whiskey I've ever had. But I think that that mixture of the grainy notes with the honey, with the fruit, with the citrus zestiness. There is a lot going on here. And it's executed at a really high level. Yeah, I won't disagree with any of that. I think that on the finish for me, if I can revisit my finish for a hot second, I won't change my score. Second and third sip definitely improved the experience. It's much thicker, much more viscous. And I think for one of the first times ever, I really am getting true notes of butter scotch on this. It's not quite caramel, and it's not quite maple. And it's right in between that. It reminds me a lot of like a butter scotch ice cream topping. I really, really like this a lot. Again, I still don't think it's complex. But I'm gonna give it a 9 out of 10 on the balance. Because everything that it does, it's doing at a high level, even if I'm not pulling 50 different tasting notes out of it. Now Bob, this is going to set you back $82 in the state of Ohio for a bottle. I think that's still a pretty good value. Let me ask you this, is that for the 12 year expression or the new 16? Let me pull it back up and check. Bob, it looks on the OHLQ website like it's a picture of the older whiskey. But I don't know if they've started to transition what they are shipping to the US. I don't know if they're like finishing out the old batch. What I do know is that in 2022, just two years ago, it won double gold at the San Francisco World Wine and Spirits Competition in the single malt non-age stated category. Okay. So as of two years ago, it was an NAS.
