Forrest Gump (1994) / Glenmorangie Nectar D'or Single Malt Scotch [10:32-15:34]

It's little lines like that where I'm like, man, Ebert is the goat. He's so funny, man. That's great. All right, on that note, on the note of Jenny stripping, let's get into talking about this movie. Now again, this is season 10 of our podcast where we are revisiting all the films from our very first season of the podcast, because I think we've improved in our ability to review both movies and whiskey. If you'd like to listen to our original review, you can check us out on Patreon. We've put season one behind a paywall. You can't get it publicly anymore. But if you really want to hear us stumble through, check us out on patreon.com slash film whiskey where you can support us at three different tiers. A three, five, and seven dollar a month tier. Each tier comes with exclusive perks, including access to a special Discord channel that Brad and I are on pretty much every single day, talking to people from film and whiskey nation. Brad, it's time for us to get into Brad explains. Brad's gonna give us the movie blogs with only 60 seconds sticking on the clock. So let's go ahead and hear you take with this little segment that we call Brad explains. Brad explains is the part of the show where Brad breaks down the plot of the film that he has just seen often for the first time. This is at least Brad's second time seeing Forest Gump. I have to imagine that even in the G household, you probably saw this at some point growing up, right? Like this is not just time number two for you. I don't think I saw this movie until college. Wow! Yeah. Yeah, Forest Gump was not a staple of the G household. It was probably like 18, 19, 19, 20 when I saw it for the first time. Man, that's... Wow. Yeah, dude. I feel like this movie was so ubiquitous in the late 90s. Like it was on some channel on TV at every moment of the day for a solid eight years, I would say. And now I know you didn't have cable. I understand. You don't have to tell me you freaking homage person you. But like it was the second highest grossing film of 1994 and then it hit video and the soundtrack became I think for a time either the best or the second best selling soundtrack of all time. Like this movie was freaking everywhere. I saw this movie at a way too young age. Didn't really understand what was going on with Forest and Jenny in that dorm room for a while. But man, my parents, what were you letting me watch back then? See, you were on the same level as Forest. Yeah, pretty much. Pretty much. All right, dude, you have one minute on the clock to break down the plot of Forest Gump. Folks, we're going into full spoilers. So if you have not seen this 30 plus year old film, go ahead and hit pause here. Go watch Forest Gump because you're one of the few that has not seen it. And then come back and rejoin the episode. Brad, 60 seconds and go. Forest Gump is a film that follows its titular character, Forest Gump. As he grows up in the deep South, that's a capital D capital S deep South for those who are wondering. Back in the 1950s, it follows him through the, as I said earlier, tumultuous 60s, 70s, and 80s as he finds himself in various extraordinary circumstances in his ultimate pursuit of being a good person honoring his friends and pursuing his one true love, Jenny. He's also the father of Haley Joel Osmond. He sure is. Dude, literally, every single time I've ever seen this movie, I'm like completely blindsided when the child comes out and it's Haley Joel Osmond. And I have the exact same reaction. I'm like, oh, wow, it's Haley Joel Osmond. And the way he says hello there, Mr. Gump is the most perfect line reading of the whole film. There are so many great line readings in this film. It is like Robert Zemeckis wins the best director Oscar for this film, which I think of all of Forest Gump's Oscar wins. I probably have the biggest issue with that. And we can talk about that later. But if there is ever going to be a reason to justify him winning best director, it is getting these line readings out of tiny, tiny characters in this movie, whether it's the literally tiny Haley Joel Osmond or every time Dorothy Harris, the bus driver shows up, there's so, dude, there's so much disdain in her voice when he goes, Mama said, I shouldn't be talking to strangers. And she goes, this is the bus to school. It makes me laugh. She's got a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. I freaking love the way the line readings in this movie go. Oh, man. And who plays his friend Bubba Gump or Bubba? Bubba is played by an actor named Michael T. Williamson. Yeah, Michael T. Williamson freaking knocks it out of the park.
