LEMON DROP | Rep. Suhas Subramanyam: "Everyone Is Losing Right Now!" [2:09-5:36]
Do you think when you said they don't know Iran, I think Donald Trump thought if he just was the craziest thing that he could say, the most outlandest thing that he could say on social media, that they would make them afraid and they would just relent, right? But it doesn't work that way, he's found out. No, they don't care if their people get killed. They don't care if their country is destroyed. All they want is money and estate and power, right? Those are their sources of leverage. If you go after those things, that's where you get to them. So if there's a carrot there where you're offering some sort of compensation for them, giving up their nuclear program, some sort of care for giving up the ballistic missile program, stopping sponsor terrorism, that's how you get Iran to agree to things. Which we did that before, but obviously Trump didn't agree with the Obama nuclear plan. Well, speaking of justification for the war, we just talked about it. I, this is me saying this yet, you don't have to agree with it. I think that Marco Rubio gave the real reason why they went to war, because they said that Israel was going to strike and they were afraid that that Toronto, Iran was going to retaliate in a single way. Israel doesn't take any of that. Exactly. Israel shouldn't be dictating our foreign policy. But he said that congressman, he said it, and then took it back the next day. Exactly, and that's the reasoning behind it. That's terrible too. I mean, we shouldn't be letting other countries, we work with our allies, we get intel from our allies, but they shouldn't be telling us going to war. And even if they do, they can. They have every right to tell us, hey, this is a threat and we want you to help us. We have to make our own decisions for our own country and the reality is this administration made a lot of bad decisions. Well, the people should be making the decision about going to war through their elected officials. Through its congress, yeah, and the congress has the power to declare war. And at this point, now they're coming back to us asking for $200 billion more, one and a half trillion dollars in defense spending. Yeah, we didn't have the money last year for healthcare. We didn't have the money for feeding kids and Medicaid. It's just crazy, the priorities of this administration. So then what's the deal with the war powers? I think because you guys keep putting it on the table and Republicans keep voting it down. What's going on? We're in search of some Republicans who will join us publicly in admonishing this war and ending this war. But the reality is they are still afraid of Donald Trump. They still think that they'll be in trouble. They'll be called to the principal's office if they disagree with him. We just need three or four Republicans to join us in sending a signal and sending a message to the White House. The White House wants to get out of this war one way is to actually respect Congress and come back to us. Do these people ever leave Washington? I mean, is it, are they in a bubble? Do they understand how unpopular Donald Trump is right now? I'm talking about the Republicans. I think they do. I think in the end, a lot of their constituents, because of gerrymandering across the country, because of their constituencies wanting President Trump to be successful. They're responsive to that, but many of them lectured me last year on the perils of being involved in foreign entanglements, the perils of regime change. I got lecturers from people on the oversight committee about that. And yeah, here we are. They're standing by their men while he goes around and he starts these wars of choice and he tries to do regime change all across the world. And now? And now here we are. We're deep into a war where we're spending billions of dollars a day. They were doing the exact things that they said they wouldn't do.
