LEMON DROP | Senator Blumenthal Says The Trump Administration is LYING About Ira [0:00-5:06]
Wait a minute, we were just talking about how good looking he is. You're the one who's... Okay, I was. I was. But let's... I want to talk about the war. Okay. Because we don't know what to believe, Senator. We hear that there's a deal, there's not a deal, there's a ceasefire, there's not a ceasefire. And I don't think the American people realize it's like we're having whiplash here. What is your assessment of this? Let me say first that the great fallacy and failing of this war, first of all, is the failure to tell the truth to the American people. Now, I want to tell you, as the United States Senator, I believe that this administration is lying to me and to the American people about what is actually happening on the ground. For example, we have not destroyed as much of their drone and missile capability as Pete Hegset, the Secretary of Defense, is telling. That's obvious because they said that in the 12-day war, that they had just completely obliterated it. And then all of a sudden, six, eight months later, you come back and it's not completely obliterated. And they continued to strike targets now. So someone is not telling the truth to the right. It is, or well again, in the sense that we told you one thing yesterday, but now it's completely different. And I think, ultimately, the chaos and confusion are revealing in showing how there's no strategy here, there's no end game, there's no clear path. And I think it's frustrating for the military and for our own men, women in uniform, that they have no clear mission and strategy. I feel bad that you told me, if I should, I feel bad that sometimes I believe the Iranians over our own administration, because when Donald Trump says, oh, the straight is completely open and then you'll hear about, you'll get the Iranians saying, no, it's not and then the truth is that it's not. And so on this war, I'm starting to believe the Iranians, who I'm not trustworthy as well, right? If they appear to be more trustworthy than this than our own administration in the United States government. What most troubles me is, and here's the lack of truth telling, we don't know what the costs are. I've asked in classified briefings several times, what are we paying for this war? What are the costs in dollars? What are the costs in lives? How many Iranians have been killed? How many billions of dollars are we spending every day on this war? And I have not received a single accurate or reliable answer. And it's not me, it's the American people who deserve those answers. You have a true representative of the American people, right? You speak to the American people. They won't tell me they're not telling the American people. Yeah. Do you have you gotten a rationalization or justification for this war at all? Because, you know, it's not regime change, but the regime did change. It is to destroy their weapons, but they've already been destroyed. It's because they killed protesters, but have you gotten some justification for why we did this? No. In a word? No. No. There was no imminent threat. Right. No reason to bomb Iran. It was a war of choice. That's what typically people say about. But I think it was really a war of impulse and whim and illusion without thinking through that they were going to close the straight-of-formals. They knew it, the military knew it, but Donald Trump didn't take into account and deciding that now was the time he was going to start this war. And none of the objectives, here's the scary part. None of the objectives that he stated, they are contradictory, shifting objectives, change the regime, secure the enriched uranium, destroy the missiles and drones, stop the terrorist proxies. None of them can be accomplished at 30,000 feet. None can be accomplished by bombing alone. The only way to accomplish them is either by putting our sons and daughters on the ground in Iran with mass casualties, thousands of deaths and injuries to our sons and daughters or diplomacy. And if you're the Iranians, you're the Iranians, the last two times you've engaged in diplomacy
