MN Secretary of state reacts to Faribault ballot misprint

[transcript] Mentioned that ballot issue in Faribault County a moment ago, where a ballot misprint caused a candidate to be listed as the wrong party, we became aware of it on the first day of early voting Friday. KDTC spoke with Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon this morning, and he says this is a rare occurrence. According to Simon, one of the core responsibilities at the county level is to proof all local ballots. In Faribault County, incumbent state representative Peggy Bennett of Albert Lee was incorrectly listed as a DFLer when she is a Republican. According to Simon, when the error was brought to their attention, Faribault County election officials immediately addressed the issue. The misprint affected a total of 17 early voters in that county alone. These voters will now have the opportunity to re-vote or allow their original ballot to be counted, with any votes already cast for Bennett, going her way regardless of the listed party affiliation. Just to put this in perspective, we have over 5,000 different combinations of ballots in Minnesota, different variations of what they look like, and on each one of those, of course, are dozens of contests. So I just want to put that in perspective. This is one error in one contest on one of 5,000 plus ballots. So overall, the system works well, but in this case, there was a local misprint. Simon says Faribault County handled the issue well. It's working to file a petition to the Minnesota Supreme Court. He says he expects the court to turn the situation around, issue an order, and the correct ballots can be reordered. KGDC reached out to Faribault County for comment on this misprint and have yet to receive a response.
