Judge Green swears in her last class of CASA's

[transcript] Rose Cran's gets $3 million from the Winnebago County Health Board Wednesday to pursue its community-based programs. This includes adding more psychiatrists, counselors, and nurses. More than 500 people got psychiatric care and three-fourths of clients show improvement in education and housing stability. It's really about enhancing the community needs so that the lives can be saved. Um, again, it addresses any further penetration into the criminal justice system that we can provide for our community as well. The Illinois Legislative Audit Commission meets with State Police Merit Board to discuss the $550,000 spent in taxpayer funds to twice investigate a former employee who was fired over wage theft allegations. ISP paid former CFO Jenny Thornley more than $71,000 taxpayer dollars in both disability and workers' compensation even after she was fired. It could be a turning point in the state's marijuana industry as the Cook County Circuit Court considers removing a barrier that keeps more than 100 social equity applicants from getting their dispensary licenses. The ruling could happen as early as Friday and if the judge says yes, minority applicants are free to set up, find a space and open their business. And the State of Illinois loses the chance to add Stellantis's Samsung Electric Vehicle Battery Factory and its territory. Instead, the $2.5 billion factory will be built in our neighboring State of Indiana. The new facility will create up to 1,400 jobs working with Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles. Production is slated to start in 2025. After more than a decade of advocating and protecting the lives of abused and neglected children, one Winnebago County judge passes the baton. 23 news reporter Stephanie Quarks speaks with those who say her impact will never be forgotten. Wednesday night was bittersweet for Judge Mary Lynn Green. She spent the last 13 years saving dozens of children and now she swears in her last class of court-appointed service advocates. Chief Judge came to me and she said, Mary Lynn, what would you say if I ask you to take over the juvenile abuse in the Black courtroom? Judge Mary Lynn Green was a nurse in the years before. She took on the chair in the 17th Circuit Court. Now, during that time, she worked with countless numbers of abused children. And I started laughing and she says, what's so funny? I said, if I could pick any courtroom to take over, it would be that. 13 years later, Green passes the baton. Wednesday night, she swears in New Winnebago County Court-appointed service advocates for the last time. Green says these volunteers are the one constant in the kids life. She's been part of this program for so long over a decade and she has touched the lives of so many children. Casa advocates say Green brought light to some of the darkest times in kids' lives. But for Green, this wasn't always easy. But people don't like you when you take their kids away. Trust me. But it has to be done and somebody needs to do it. When children would have to testify against their parents, instead of the courtroom, Green brought them into her chambers with stuffed animals and a therapy dog. She says these small gifts of comfort make all the difference. I tell parents, with the day they walk in my courtroom, only have one goal is to do what's in your children's best interest. I don't think you can you can hassle with it. Green says Casa volunteers were the ones who kept many of the kids going through legal battles with their parents. Green hopes to join the board of Casa to help in the future, and she will never stop advocating for a child's life. Coming up, the unofficial start to summer will be a busy one this year as AAA expects millions to hit the highway. The exact
