[transcript] A Lee County deputy was shot while serving a rape warrant in lochapoca. According to Lee County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened near a home on county road 188 around 530 yesterday. Officials say deputies return fire killing the suspect. Lee County corner Daniel Sexton revealed the suspect was 36-year-old Wilder Gomez from Guatemala. Gomez was being served a felony warrant for his arrest. After his girlfriend reported to a lochapoca school resource officer that she was being held against her will and sexually assaulted. It was less than 12 hours between the initial report and the fatal incident and the victim and her children were present during the exchange of gunfire. They are all safe and the injured deputy went into surgery at UAB in Birmingham at 8.45 this morning.
