Lasley
Why are you running for this office?
Lasley:
As a lifelong resident of Boone County and the current assessor, I want to continue executing the best service to residents. Helping homeowners and businesses understand property tax assessment. Providing answers to their questions is a responsibility (I) not only take seriously but find to be very rewarding for everyone involved.
What sets you apart from your opponent?
Lasley:
Certification: In 2016, I obtained my Level III Indiana Assessor-Appraiser Certification before taking office as the elected Boone County assessor. Experience: employed in the Boone County Assessor’s Office in 2011; caucused in as county assessor in 2022; elected as Boone County assessor in 2023.
What are your top three campaign issues?
Lasley:
Experience: Working in this office helps me apply my knowledge to everyday decisions and daily workings. Integrity: Providing the service residents deserve requires attention to detail and being educated with new laws and changes in law. Transparency: Fair, impartial assessments based on standards and laws established by the State of Indiana.
What do you most want voters to know about you?
Lasley:
I understand our residents may have questions and concerns about their assessment. I remain educated and certified with the property tax system. It is important taxpayers know they have a voice, and I welcome phone calls or meetings to help them understand how the assessment system works.
Amidst fluctuating property values from developments like LEAP, how will you ensure assessments remain fair, accurate and transparent?
Lasley:
Assessments are to be at or near market value. We monitor all sales that occur in county. We use these to examine the assessed values. Once I speak with taxpayers, review the correct years’ sales with them, they tend to have a better understanding of how their value was derived.
