Legislation authored by Baldwin signed into law

Three bills co-authored by State Sen. Scott Baldwin (R-Noblesville) were signed into law April 14 by Indiana Gov. Mike Braun. According to Baldwin’s office, Senate Enrolled Act 189 , authored by Baldwin, Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) and Sen. Tyler Johnson (R-Leo), builds on the federal No Surprises Act of 2021 by triggering a good faith conference between parties to negotiate a reimbursement agreement instead of conducting an Independent Dispute Resolution case to avoid delays in medical care and increased costs. Baldwin said SEA189 will alleviate burdens and enhance competitiveness within Indiana’s health care marketplace. The second law signed, Senate Enrolled Act 227 , authored by Baldwin, Sen. Aaron Freeman (R-Indianapolis) and Sen. Cyndi Carrasco (R-Indianapolis), creates a federally compliant framework to allow law enforcement throughout the state to detect and respond to unauthorized drones only when federal law permits. The third law signed, Senate Enrolled Act 291 , authored by Baldwin, Carrasco and Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford), repeals the existing Supreme Court Sheriff safety model and replaces it with a dedicated Supreme Court Marshal. Baldwin said SEA227 ensures Indiana is prepared to respond to the threats drones present to large public events, airports and critical infrastructure, and SEA291 ensures judges can do their job without fear of intimidation. {# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
