Chargers close league play with Dave Hall Field sweep
Columbia State leftfielder Ashton Kemp flags down a flyball just short of the new fence at Dave Hall Field during Friday’s TCCAA doubleheader sweep of visiting Pellissippi State. The games marked the Chargers’ first on campus since a March 15 tornado left the field unplayable with damage to the outfield fence, the chain link fence along the left-field foul line and the adjacent batting cages. Repairs were expedited and completed in time for the weekend series as C-State won 12-5 and 9-2 on Friday before completing the set with a 12-6 Saturday victory. At 28-17 overall and 23-7 in league play, the Chargers will play a non-conference game Tuesday at 2 p.m. against visiting Cleveland State to wrap up their regular-season schedule. They are assured of a top-three seed heading into the upcoming conference tournament, which they will host May 5-9. Columbia State will also host the TCCAA softball tournament May 1-5. ROB FLEMING
