During the argument Golston brandished a gun. Burnside attempted to diffuse the situation, and he backed away from Golston. Burnside then turned around and attempted to run back into his home, and Golston fired his gun three times, hitting Burnside in his back, buttocks, and shoulder. The Gary Police Department responded to the reported incident and found Burnside dead inside his home due to multiple gunshot wounds.
