Brown County Council member Scott Rudd was among a select group of local government officials from across Indiana invited to participate in a recent statewide roundtable hosted by Elise Nieshalla.
The Comptroller’s Roundtable, held recently at the Statehouse, brought together county and municipal leaders to discuss coordination between state and local governments, particularly in the distribution of tax revenues. The ongoing forum is designed to incorporate feedback from local officials and address changes in law, financial processes and technology.
Rudd, representing Brown County, participated alongside officials selected from statewide associations representing county auditors, treasurers, commissioners, councils and municipal clerk-treasurers. Other attendees included Auditor Tony Mellencamp of Adams County; Treasurer Samantha Chenery of Allen County; City Clerk Nicole Bolden of the City of Bloomington; Clerk-Treasurer Lori Elmore of the City of Greenfield; Controller Greg Wright of the City of Greenwood; Treasurer Jennifer Flater of Clay County; Auditor Jennifer Welsh of Daviess County; Auditor Susan Sleeper of DeKalb County; Commissioner Suzanne Weirick of Elkhart County; Auditor Debra Carnes of Hancock County; Auditor Angie Birchmeier of Marshall County; Treasurer Heather Laffoon of Montgomery County; Auditor Shelly Mawhorter of Noble County; County Council member Anton Neff of Owen County; Auditor Kristinia Hammack of Perry County; Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford of the Town of North Manchester; and Commissioner Chris Switzer of Vigo County.
“It’s an honor to represent Brown County and serve on this Roundtable alongside leaders from across Indiana,” Rudd said. “These discussions aren’t just about policy—they’re about making sure our communities receive funding on time, with clarity and accountability. I’ll continue working to ensure Brown County benefits from stronger coordination between state and local government.”
According to the Comptroller’s Office, discussion topics included upcoming changes to excise tax and settlement procedures, enhancements to training resources and ongoing efforts to consolidate accounting fund numbers statewide to improve transparency and efficiency.
Comptroller Nieshalla said feedback from local officials helps guide the state’s efforts to streamline financial processes and ensure tax dollars are distributed accurately and on time.
