Case Summary
Following a jury trial, Joe P. Hambel was convicted of two counts of murder
and one count of criminal trespass, for which he received an aggregate sentence
of 121 years in prison. His convictions and sentence were affirmed on direct
appeal. Hambel later sought post-conviction relief (PCR), arguing that his trial
counsel was ineffective for failing to investigate and present mitigating evidence
at sentencing relating to Hambel’s traumatic brain injury (TBI).
