Jogger seriously injured in crash; investigation ongoing
A Brownsburg woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle while jogging, according to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 4 p.m. March 31 to a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Ronald Reagan Parkway and C.R. 700 North in Brownsburg. Investigators said a Kia SUV traveling northbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway entered the intersection and struck the woman as she was jogging westbound through the crossing.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a hospital with a head injury. As of the latest update from authorities, her condition has not been publicly released.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Crash reconstruction specialists were called in to assist in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Family members have since identified the woman as Rebeca, a Brownsburg resident, teacher and mother of three, who they say faces a long recovery.
According to a fundraiser organized on her behalf, Rebeca suffered multiple serious injuries in the crash, including trauma to her brain as well as injuries to her pelvis, ankle and elbow. She has remained hospitalized since the incident and is expected to require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Described by loved ones as an avid runner and dedicated math teacher, Rebeca is also a mother to three young children. The sudden nature of the crash has created both emotional and financial strain for her family as she begins what is expected to be a lengthy recovery process.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs and daily living needs while she is unable to work. Organizers say the community has already begun to show support for the family during the difficult time.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released by authorities.
