Governor Braun signs legislation to help with high utility bills
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Governor Mike Braun has signed legislation that might help Hoosiers with high utility bills.
The new law has provisions requiring utilities to have assistance programs for low-income customers, bans hot-weather shutoffs during peak heat for low-income customers, and requires everyone be put on a levelized billing plan.
The law does not mandate utility companies to lower rates, but does create a three-year performance-based ratemaking process under the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
