One evening, Garnes called 911 and reported that Z.C. was not breathing. Although the operator instructed Garnes and Cox on administering CPR, the paramedics arrived to find no one doing so, and that Z.C. was dead. Z.C.’s body was “cold” and “mottling” with bruises covering nearly all of his body. Tr. Vol. III, p. 86.
