INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) - Indiana Gov. Mike Braun says the issue of legalizing medicinal marijuana in the state may need to be addressed sooner rather than later.
According to
our affiliate WPTA
, the governor said last week he’s “agnostic” on medical marijuana. But legislators might be more open-minded to some sort of legalization as neighboring states Illinois, Ohio and Michigan allow marijuana to be used both recreationally and medically.
A Ball State University survey suggests more than 62 percent of Hoosiers support legalizing marijuana for both types of use.
Republican State Rep. Jim Lucas has long pushed to legalize cannabis in Indiana, but his proposals have yet to make it out of committee.
“Part of this that I’ve never looked at has been the the cash flow part of it, but that’s something you can’t ignore, because those numbers are pretty big,” Lucas said. “I think it’s been estimated Indiana could possibly bring in $150-200 million on the recreational side. Now, I know the governor mentioned medical side, but you know it’s, it’s everything’s on the table the way I see it.”
In the past, Braun has said any discussion about legalizing marijuana in Indiana would involve law enforcement.
