A man who never needed to work because he inherited so much money from his son, that he should be this last voice of a progressive populism both for white and black Americans. Was that just coincidental? Do you think that his privileged background somehow enabled him to bring poor Americans of every color together? That's a great question. And the answer is something. He was the, in the middle of the young children, and that he was getting, there were people before, including people getting died. But, and he was somewhat, although he's very strong, he's not quite as high and so it seemed to be that he just, from watching all of that, that he, what he would do differently. Now, telling you that doesn't really tell you. Yeah, I take your point in a way. It might sound slightly obscene, but he grew up within this very privileged family, in a very unprivileged way. He was picked on, he was bullied, he was ignored by his father. When he was kids, he found friends who were low-income people one way or another, even in a fancy place. He would find somebody who was not. And that goes far, far earlier. What are your memories, Peter, of the Ambassador Hotel in June of 1968? What can I tell you? I mean... You were there? No, I was there that morning. I went back to see Marianne and do basin things on the paper. So you weren't actually at the Ambassador Hotel? No, not when he was killed. So, I was in my own house here in DC. So did you get a telephone call? Yes, we were listening on things. And it was three in DC. It was three in the morning. And you know, what can you say? I mean, it was just unbelievable. Were you surprised there? Given the brother's assassination, given all the threats that Bobby had even in that campaign? No, you know, that's true. But you know, the way he worked and lived was to just do to do. And so I never thought about it. And he didn't either, because he would go places that could be hit, you know, in many different places where somebody could hit about a car, hit Adam. And so I didn't think about it, you know, until I heard that he'd been killed. It's been a great debate since about how realistic his chances would have been of getting the democratic nomination. What do you think? I think he would. No, we'll never know, but he has worked also connected to people who are all different people. Who he's not only having people with black and white and low income and so on, he had connections all over what things.
