Stop, Don’t Do That [10:18-15:30]

And as a result of that, we met her and so on. And the other thing about it was about people getting to eat for the whole country to get help. It was essentially became national in that time when we were down south. And so, as a combination, it was extremely important about getting help and people on eating. And, of course, at the same time. And Robert loved as much as I did. She had a way of finding people who were special. And so, he would have a growing line of people who got, and Marion was one of those. And so, she would come to see me until we got together and got married after we lost her. But he did all this work with my wife at the same time. And, he was, Marion was up from his main, from before, but bound. And he would say, oh, come and have lunch. And they were very, very close. It's worth reminding our viewers and listeners that the Marion, you speak about is Marion, right, Edelman, perhaps the best known of civil rights actors, certainly amongst the best known of female black civil rights activists, legal civil rights activists in the second half of the 20th century. You married Marion, Marion, a month after Canada's death, you were there, what, the third couple in Virginia, third interracial couple in Virginia. That's right. It's Peter these days, that's going to astonish a lot of people, given the number of interracial relationships and marriages. What was that like to be in such a small community of black, white unions? You know, we were in DC, which is somewhat different from other parts of the country. There certainly are parts, if you said that, and it would be a big deal. But we never felt that it was hard, that it was something awful going to happen and so on. We just didn't. We had a wonderful time together and it went well. And so maybe that's a little surprising, but we found that the very idea of having black and white was some big question. It wasn't. You were married a month after the Kennedy assassination in June of 1968. That must have been a bittersweet ceremony. Once that terrible thing had happened, and we said to each other, well let's do something good. And so we did. And the people who came were, of course, our own family, but the people who were in that, you know, you're somewhat known people. And so it was a very interesting group. And, you know, it was exactly what we wanted.

{# E23 (Nick, ruling section 1 answer 10): quoting a bill or a court opinion works the way quoting a news article works. Select a passage above and the same panel opens: the passage goes to the official you choose, with this document's own address as its source and its own type. #}
