Jackson County deputy, suspect die after exchange of gunfire in St. Martin [0:00-1:06]

time now 703 breaking now the Jackson County Mississippi Sheriff's Office morning, the loss of one of its own. A deputy killed in the line of duty, the sheriff's office says they responded to a disturbance call at the reserve apartments in St. Martin around 11 last night. They say an exchange of gunfire occurred involving a female suspect and they say the woman died at the scene. Before they say deputy Michael Jimerson was hit during the shootout. He was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital where he died from his injuries. Sheriff John Leadbetter releasing a statement on the deputy's passing a reads and part quote, deputy Jimerson was a valued member of our law enforcement family. His losses deeply felt across the department and the community he served. We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his friends and family and the men and women of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. And the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
