Michigan gas station mix-up has drivers putting diesel in their gas tanks [0:00-3:57]

drivers are coming forward, saying they got a bad fuel at a McComb County Meyer gas station. The company is working to alert drivers about the mix-up. Let's get live. The Fox News Dave Kension, he's in Clinton Township, or customers say they've been left in Limbo. Dave. Yeah, Rob, this is the Meyer Express gas station behind me here on Gross Back. And, you know, this Meyer location is really one that has seen a lot of people come here off the highway. Certainly in the timeframe that the store says this mix-up took place. Let's go to video right now. We spoke with Mike Pfeiffer. Now, Mike Pfeiffer says he drove his Jeep Wrangler here into this Gross Back Highway Meyer Express gas station and pumped some gas drove for a few days before noticing white smoke and other problems clearly indicating something was wrong. Now, last month Meyer alerted customers and the general public that there was a mix-up leaving some people with diesel instead of unleaded or, in some cases, a mixture of both. Now, that notice went to customers who bought gas here between 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 17th St. Patrick's Day and 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19th. Now, Mike says that his Jeep is in the shop awaiting repairs as the dealership is waiting to hear back from Meyer. He says Meyer only offered him $100,000 in perk points, which he says is about worth $76 of gas. He says it's long-time past, long-pass time for a fix. You know, sarcasm hit in and I was like, okay, my 2016 Jeep is about to be a 2026 with a brand new motor, but eight days later it's like, I'm about to bust out a skateboard. That's how bad it is. Just do right. Not everybody has the money to go out and just pay for all these repairs, especially in this economy right now. Do right. Take care of it. Answer an email. Answer a phone message. Do something. It sounds like he had probably a decent amount of gasoline in his car already. And then when he put the diesel in it, it mixed through. So it was diluted enough to where it took a little bit of time for it to start and to drive of his car. And that's why he got a few days out of it. So if he drains the tank, cleans the injectors, and probably replaces the spark plugs, it's probably okay to go. That's Kenny the car guy. They are Kenny the car guy saying this mix up can't happen from time to time with the gas or diesel going into the wrong tank. Under ground meantime, these are emails. Mike says he got from Meyer, which blamed a third party fuel provider for the mistake. Meyer says that they shut down the pumps. As soon as they realize there's a problem and started reaching out individually to the customers who may have been impacted while promising reimbursements for everyone who has to pay for repairs. Mike says that has it happened yet. We have calls into Meyer. We'll let you know when we hear back on that front now. Tonight on the edge in just a little bit. What do you do if you're in that situation? And more importantly, how can you prevent something like that from happening? We talked more with Kenny the car guy tonight on the edge about that. For now reporting live in Clinton Township. Dave Kinschen, Fox two news. Yeah, I think that gentleman made a really good point in today's economy. It's not just an easy thing to go get your car fixed. So how pricey of a fix is this in a situation like the gentleman you interviewed where they got to drain the tank and also clean the injectors? Well, Kenny says it really depends. You know, it could be if it's especially a diesel engine and there's gasoline that goes in. It could be really north of the thousands. Maybe not as much if you're talking about an engine that is gasoline based and there's some diesel that gets in there. But there's a mix. It depends on the mix. It depends on how much gas versus, you know, diesel is in there. So it really does depend. Fox two's Dave Kinschen for us live tonight. Thank you.
