She told doctors she tripped while holding the child, but medical evidence showed multiple injuries consistent with inflicted blunt-force trauma, and the pathologist ruled the death a homicide. [4] Adkins was convicted at a bench trial of neglect of a dependent resulting in death and sentenced to 30 years, with 10 years suspended.
